Riccordia swainsonii (Lesson, RP, 1829)

Hispaniolan Emerald, Riccordia swainsonii, is a hummingbird of Hispaniola in the Dominican Republic and Haiti. It lives in dense montane rainforest, scrublands and coffee plantations, using both interior areas and edges. The species is mostly found between 300 and 2,500 m, though it can occur at sea level and sometimes above 3,000 m. It was once placed in Chlorostilbon, but is now treated in Riccordia. Both sexes show a small white spot behind the eye, and the male has a red lower mandible and black upper mandible.
