Hoffmann's Woodpecker

Rhegmatorhina hoffmannsi

Hoffmann's Woodpecker (Rhegmatorhina hoffmannsi) is a medium-sized woodpecker found in the forests and woodlands of Central America. This species is known for its distinctive black and white plumage with a red crown on the male. It has a strong, chisel-like bill for excavating insects from tree bark and a unique undulating flight pattern. Hoffmann's Woodpeckers are often observed foraging for insects and larvae on tree trunks and branches. They also communicate using drumming and calls to establish territory and attract mates. Although not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and fragmentation pose potential risks to their populations.
