Fringillidae — Finches, Euphonias

Hooded Grosbeak Hesperiphona abeillei is a finch of Middle America, breeding in Mexico and Guatemala. It is a passerine in the family Fringillidae, and its range is split across montane forests in those countries. The bird is notable for its very thick bill and its stocky build. It is found in evergreen, pine, pine-oak and semi-deciduous woodland in subtropical and temperate zones. Most of the time it remains in the same area through the year, though some birds shift to lower ground outside the breeding season.
