Hooded Pitohui

Hooded Pitohui, Pitohui dichrous, breeds in New Guinea and on Yapen in the Geelvink Bay islands of north-west New Guinea. It is a passerine in the Old World oriole family, first described by Bonaparte in 1850. This forest bird is most often found in hills and lower mountain areas, though it occurs from sea level to 2,000 m. It is notable for its poisonous skin, feathers and other tissues, which contain batrachotoxin compounds. It is also known for living in family groups and joining mixed-species foraging flocks.
