Hooded Pitta

The Hooded Pitta (Pitta novaeguineae) is a strikingly colorful bird found in the forests and woodlands of Southeast Asia and Australia. It is known for its vibrant plumage, with a black head, green wings, and a bright red belly. This medium-sized bird is often observed hopping on the forest floor in search of insects and small invertebrates. The Hooded Pitta is a migratory species, breeding in the forests of Southeast Asia and wintering in northern Australia. Its melodious and distinctive call is a common sound in its habitat. Despite facing threats from habitat loss and deforestation, the Hooded Pitta is currently listed as a species of Least Concern by the IUCN.
