Hooded Tanager, Nemosia pileata, is a passerine in the Thraupidae family and breeds widely across South America. It is present in almost every mainland South American country, with Chile, Ecuador and Uruguay excluded. The species was first named by Boddaert in 1783. It is a resident bird and lives in wooded places, including gallery forest, secondary growth, mangroves, river edges and lighter woodland, as well as plantations. In the Amazon Basin it is mainly associated with gallery forest, forest margins and trees in more open cover.
