Hooded Vulture, Necrosyrtes monachus, is a widespread African bird of the Accipitriformes, found across sub-Saharan Africa. It is a small vulture with a rather untidy appearance, and it is set apart by its bare head and neck, long narrow bill, dark brown plumage, and downy nape and hind-neck. The face is usually light red. It was described by Temminck in 1823. Its range covers southern, eastern and western parts of Africa, and it is the only species in the genus Necrosyrtes.
