Hoopoe Starling, Fregilupus varius, is a starling of Réunion in the Indian Ocean, within the Mascarene Islands. It was described by Boddaert in 1783. Its range was confined to that island, where it lived in humid places and marshes. The bird is noted for a light crest that could move and curl forwards, and for a form that was thought to differ between the sexes, with males larger and their bills more curved. Juveniles were browner than adults. It was once kept as a pet and hunted by settlers.
