Heliactin bilophus (Temminck, 1820)

Horned Sungem, Heliactin bilophus, is a hummingbird found in southern Suriname and northern Brazil, with a wider breeding range across eastern and south-eastern Brazil to eastern Bolivia. It lives in open country and also uses human-made places such as gardens. The bird is notable for its short black bill and, in the male, two bright feather tufts above the eyes, along with a blue crest and a dark throat with a pointed beard. The female is less striking, with a brown or yellow-buff throat. It is the only species in Heliactin.
