Huancavelica Canastero

Asthenes huancavelicae

The Huancavelica Canastero is a small bird species found in the high Andes of Peru. It is characterized by its brown and gray plumage, with subtle streaking on the breast and belly. This species is often found foraging for insects and seeds in the dense undergrowth of Polylepis forests and shrubby areas at elevations between 3,000 and 4,500 meters. The Huancavelica Canastero is known for its distinctive high-pitched song, which it uses to communicate and defend its territory. Due to its restricted range and potential threats from habitat loss, this species may be at risk, but its conservation status is currently classified as Unknown by the IUCN.
