Huegels Snipe

Coenocorypha huegeli

The Huegels Snipe is a small, elusive bird species found in the grasslands and wetlands of New Zealand. It is known for its cryptic plumage, which provides excellent camouflage in its preferred habitat. This species is primarily nocturnal, foraging for invertebrates in the soft mud with its long, sensitive bill. The Huegels Snipe is a solitary bird, and its breeding behavior is not well understood. Due to habitat loss and predation by introduced mammals, the population of Huegels Snipe is declining, and it is considered vulnerable to extinction.
