Hutton's shearwater

Puffinus huttoni

Hutton's shearwater (Puffinus huttoni) is a medium-sized seabird that belongs to the Procellariidae family. It is predominantly found in the waters of the South Pacific Ocean, particularly around New Zealand. This species is known for its remarkable long-distance migrations, traveling thousands of kilometers across the ocean. Hutton's shearwater has a distinctive appearance, with a dark upper body and white underparts. Its wings are long and narrow, enabling it to glide effortlessly over the water's surface. These birds are skilled at diving and foraging for fish and squid. They nest in burrows on steep, grassy slopes near the coast. Hutton's shearwater is vulnerable to threats such as habitat degradation, predation by introduced species, and marine pollution.
