Hyacinth Macaw

Anodorhynchus hyacinthinus

The Hyacinth Macaw is the largest of all parrots and is known for its stunning cobalt-blue plumage and vibrant yellow eye-ring. These majestic birds inhabit the open woodlands and savannas of central South America, where they form strong pair bonds and communicate through loud, raucous calls. Their diet primarily consists of palm nuts, which they crack open with their powerful beaks. Unfortunately, due to habitat loss and illegal trapping for the pet trade, the Hyacinth Macaw is listed as Vulnerable by the IUCN.
