Iago Sparrow

Passer iagoensis

The Iago Sparrow (Passer iagoensis) is a small, endemic bird species found on the island of Cape Verde. It is characterized by its distinctive plumage, with a brownish-gray body, a black bib, and a pale gray head. These sparrows are typically found in arid and semi-arid habitats, including shrublands, grasslands, and agricultural areas. They are known for their social behavior, often foraging in small flocks and nesting in colonies. The Iago Sparrow primarily feeds on seeds and insects, using its strong bill to crack open seeds. While the population size is currently unknown, the species faces threats from habitat loss and human disturbance.
