Imperial Snipe, Gallinago imperialis, is a South American bird of the Andean elfin forest bogs of north-western Ecuador and Peru, with old records from Colombia. It belongs to the sandpiper and snipe family and was described by Sclater and Salvin in 1869. It is a stocky wader with relatively short legs, and the adult has dark rufous-brown upperparts, white lower underparts with heavy brown barring, a grey bill, and grey legs and feet. In flight it appears broad-winged and short-tailed, and its display song is extremely loud.
