Imperial Woodpecker, Campephilus imperialis, is a woodpecker of central and north-central Mexico. It was described by Gould in 1832 and belongs to the Picidae family in the order Piciformes. The bird is associated with the middle part of Middle America, where it bred in nc and c Mexico. It is a Mexican endemic and is noted for its close link to the ivory-billed woodpecker, which has led to the alternative name Mexican ivory-billed woodpecker. If still living, it would be the largest woodpecker in the world.
