Indian Eagle-Owl

Bubo bengalensis (Franklin, 1831)

Indian Eagle-Owl, Bubo bengalensis, breeds across the Indian subcontinent in the Oriental Region. It is an owl of hilly and rocky scrub country, and is also found in light to medium forest, especially where there are rocky places. It is most often encountered near bush-covered hillocks, ravines, and steep river or stream banks, and may rest by day under a bush, a rock ledge, or in a dense tree near villages. It is marked by a white throat patch with fine black streaking, and was described by Franklin in 1831.
