Caprimulgus atripennis
The Indian Jungle Nightjar is a medium-sized nocturnal bird found in the Indian subcontinent. It has a cryptic plumage that provides excellent camouflage during the day, making it difficult to spot. This species is known for its distinctive call, a series of churring and clapping sounds that are often heard at dusk and dawn. Indian Jungle Nightjars feed on insects, which they catch in flight using their wide gape and bristles around their mouth. They prefer open woodlands, scrub, and grasslands for foraging and breeding. This species is relatively elusive and is best observed during its nocturnal activities.
