Indian Jungle Nightjar

Caprimulgus affinis

The Indian Jungle Nightjar is a nocturnal bird found in the Indian subcontinent. It has a cryptic plumage that provides excellent camouflage during the day. This species is known for its distinctive call, a repetitive churring sound that is often heard at dusk and dawn. Indian Jungle Nightjars feed on flying insects, which they catch in flight using their wide gape and bristles around the mouth. They prefer open woodlands, scrublands, and grasslands for foraging and breeding. This species is well-adapted to its crepuscular and nocturnal lifestyle, with large eyes and a silent flight. Indian Jungle Nightjars are generally solitary and are not known for forming large flocks.
