Indian Nightjar

Caprimulgus asiaticus

The Indian Nightjar (Caprimulgus asiaticus) is a nocturnal bird found in open woodlands, scrub, and grasslands across the Indian subcontinent. It has a cryptic plumage that helps it blend into its surroundings during the day, and it is most active at dawn and dusk. This species is known for its distinctive churring call, which is often heard during the breeding season. Indian Nightjars feed on insects, which they catch in flight using their wide gape and bristles around their mouth. They are relatively small birds, with a wingspan of around 55-60 cm and a length of 23-25 cm.
