Pavo cristatus
The Indian Peafowl, also known as the peacock, is a large and colorful bird native to South Asia. The male is known for its extravagant display of iridescent blue and green plumage, with a distinctive train of elongated upper-tail covert feathers adorned with eye spots. The female, known as a peahen, has a more subdued brown plumage. Indian Peafowls are omnivorous and can be found in a variety of habitats including forests, scrub, and cultivated areas. They are often seen foraging for seeds, insects, and small reptiles. These birds are known for their loud calls and are often seen in open grasslands and near water sources. The Indian Peafowl is not considered to be globally threatened and is listed as Least Concern by the IUCN.
