Ardeola grayii
The Indian Pond Heron (Ardeola grayii) is a small heron species found in South Asia. During the breeding season, the adults develop a rich chestnut plumage with a white head, neck, and underparts. Outside of the breeding season, they are predominantly grey with a streaked neck. They are often found in wetlands, marshes, and paddy fields, where they forage for insects, fish, and amphibians. Their feeding behavior includes standing still and waiting for prey, as well as actively chasing and catching it. The Indian Pond Heron is not currently considered to be at risk, with a stable population and a wide distribution range.
