Timaliidae — Babblers, Scimitar Babblers

Indian Scimitar Babbler, Pomatorhinus horsfieldii, is a passerine babbler of India in the Oriental Region, where it occurs in peninsular forest habitats. It was described by Sykes in 1832 and belongs to the Timaliidae. Its most notable feature is the long, curved, scimitar-like bill that gives the bird its name. It is usually picked out by its distinctive calls, including a duet given by a pair. It is often difficult to observe because it moves through dense vegetation.
