Indian Yellow-nosed Albatross

Thalassarche carteri

The Indian Yellow-nosed Albatross (Thalassarche carteri) is a large seabird with a wingspan of approximately 2.2 meters. It is characterized by its yellowish bill with a dark tip, and a dark eye patch. This species is primarily found in the southern Indian Ocean, where it breeds on remote islands such as the Prince Edward Islands and the Crozet Islands. Indian Yellow-nosed Albatrosses are highly adapted for a life at sea, spending the majority of their lives foraging over open ocean waters. They are known for their graceful gliding flight and their ability to cover vast distances in search of food. Unfortunately, this species faces threats from fisheries bycatch and habitat degradation, leading to a vulnerable conservation status according to the IUCN Red List.
