Indigo-banded Kingfisher

Ceyx cyanopectus

The Indigo-banded Kingfisher is a small, brightly colored bird found in the forests and woodlands of Southeast Asia. It has a striking combination of deep blue and rufous plumage, with a distinctive indigo band across its chest. This species is known for its rapid, low flight over water, where it hunts for small fish and aquatic invertebrates. The Indigo-banded Kingfisher nests in riverbanks and lays a clutch of eggs in a tunnel dug into the soil. Due to habitat loss and degradation, this species is facing population declines in some parts of its range.
