Inland Dotterel, Peltohyas australis, is a plover of inland Australia, breeding across the arid interior except the north, east and Tasmania. It is found on sparsely vegetated gibber plains and claypans, where it gathers in loose flocks by day and rests in shade. At night it is more often seen on roads, feeding on insects. It is also known as inland plover, Australian plover, desert plover and prairie plover. The species is little studied because its habitat is so remote.
