Intermediate Egret

Ardea intermedia

The Intermediate Egret is a medium-sized heron found in wetlands and shallow water habitats across Asia, Australasia, and parts of Africa. It has a slender, all-white body with a long neck and yellow bill. During the breeding season, it develops long plumes on its back and neck. This species is known for its elegant and graceful foraging behavior, often seen wading in shallow water and using its long bill to catch fish, frogs, and insects. Intermediate Egrets are colonial nesters, building stick nests in trees near water. While they are not currently considered globally threatened, habitat loss and degradation pose potential threats to their populations.
