Iranian Ground Jay, Podoces pleskei, is a passerine in the crow family and breeds in central and eastern Iran. It was described by Zarudny in 1896. A ground-dwelling bird of desert and semi-desert country on the central plateau, it is closely tied to arid terrain. Its name honours Theodor Pleske. In parts of Iran it is called zaghbur, and in some areas, including Turan National Park, it is also known by a local name meaning “the running fool”, a reference to its rapid, erratic movement.
