Ivory-billed Woodpecker, Campephilus principalis, breeds in south-east USA and Cuba. It is a woodpecker of North America, associated with bottomland hardwood forest, dense swampland and temperate coniferous forest. Adults have an ivory bill, and the plumage is black and white, with a red crest in males. It was the largest woodpecker in the United States and among the largest in the world. The species was described by Linnaeus in 1758. Its range has been reduced by habitat loss and hunting.
