Ivory-billed Woodpecker

Campephilus principalis

The Ivory-billed Woodpecker is a large woodpecker species native to the southeastern United States and Cuba. It is known for its striking black and white plumage, with a prominent ivory-colored bill. This species is renowned for its distinctive double knock drumming sound and was once considered one of the most impressive woodpeckers in North America. Unfortunately, the Ivory-billed Woodpecker is believed to be critically endangered or possibly extinct due to habitat loss and hunting. Efforts are ongoing to search for any remaining populations and protect potential habitats.
