Jackson's spurfowl

Pternistis jacksoni

Jackson's spurfowl, also known as Jackson's francolin, is a bird species found in eastern Africa. It is a medium-sized, ground-dwelling bird with a distinctive black and white speckled plumage. The species is known for its loud, repetitive calls that echo through the savanna woodlands where it resides. Jackson's spurfowl forages for seeds, fruits, and insects on the forest floor, using its strong legs and bill to scratch and peck for food. It prefers dense undergrowth and thickets, where it can find cover and protection. Although not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and hunting pose potential risks to the population.
