Jamaican Spindalis

Spindalis nigricephala (Jameson, 1835)

Jamaican Spindalis, Spindalis nigricephala, is a passerine found only in Jamaica, where it lives across the island and is especially common in upland areas. It also occurs locally on the north and south-west coasts. It uses forest, woodland and brushy places with fruiting trees and shrubs. The adult male is marked by a black head with a broad white supercilium and moustache, while the female has a greyer olive head and upperparts. The species was described by Jameson in 1835 and is placed in the family Phaenicophilidae.
