Jandaya Parakeet

Aratinga jandaya (Gmelin, JF, 1788)

Jandaya Parakeet, Aratinga jandaya, breeds in north-east Brazil and is found in wooded country there, including lowland deciduous woodland and palm groves. It is a small, long-tailed parakeet with a reddish-orange body, green wings and tail, a yellow head, neck and shoulders, orange cheeks, a black bill, a whitish eye-ring and dark eyes. The tail feathers are tipped with blue. It is part of the Aratinga solstitialis group and is very closely linked to the sun conure.
