Eophona migratoria

The Japanese Grosbeak (Eophona migratoria) is a medium-sized finch species native to East Asia, particularly Japan, Korea, and parts of eastern China. It is known for its distinctive black and white plumage, with males displaying a striking black head and throat, white cheeks, and a bright yellow patch on the nape. Females and juveniles have more subdued plumage. Japanese Grosbeaks inhabit a variety of forested habitats, including broadleaf and mixed forests, where they forage for seeds, fruits, and insects. They are often found in mountainous regions and are known for their melodious, flute-like song. While not currently assessed by the IUCN, their populations appear stable and they are not considered at immediate risk.
