Japanese Leaf Warbler

Phylloscopus xanthodryas

The Japanese Leaf Warbler is a small, insectivorous bird found in the forests of Japan and nearby regions. It is known for its distinctive song, a high-pitched and rapid trill. This warbler has olive-green upperparts and a pale yellow underside, with a faint eye-ring and thin, pointed bill. It forages actively in the canopy, gleaning insects from leaves and branches. The species migrates to wintering grounds in Southeast Asia. Its breeding habitat includes mixed deciduous and coniferous forests, often near water. The Japanese Leaf Warbler is not currently considered at risk, but its population may be impacted by habitat loss and climate change.
