Japanese Robin

Larvivora akahige (Temminck, 1835)

Japanese Robin, Larvivora akahige, is a passerine in the Muscicapidae family and breeds in the Palearctic from southern Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands through Hokkaido to Kyushu, including islets off southern Kyushu. It was described by Temminck in 1835. Formerly placed in Erithacus and known as Komadori, it is one of the east Asian robins whose classification was later revised. The name Japanese robin is also used for the red-billed leiothrix, and akahige is the Japanese name of Larvivora komadori.
