Gallinago macrodactyla
The Japanese Snipe, or Gallinago macrodactyla, is a medium-sized wader bird found in eastern Asia. It is characterized by its long bill and cryptic plumage, which provides excellent camouflage in its marshland habitat. This species is known for its distinctive aerial display during the breeding season, where the male performs a series of dives and calls to attract a mate. Japanese Snipes are primarily found in wetlands, marshes, and rice paddies, where they forage for invertebrates and small insects using their long, sensitive bills. Despite facing threats from habitat loss and hunting in some areas, the Japanese Snipe is currently considered to be of Least Concern by the IUCN.
