Japanese Waxwing

Bombycilla japonica

The Japanese Waxwing (Bombycilla japonica) is a medium-sized songbird native to East Asia. It is recognized by its striking combination of soft gray plumage, a black mask, and a yellow-tipped tail. These birds are known for their high-pitched, trilling calls and their fondness for feasting on berries and small insects. Japanese Waxwings are typically found in mixed forests, orchards, and urban parks, where they can be seen perched in small flocks. While not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and pesticide use pose potential risks to their populations.
