Japanese White-eye

Zosterops olivaceus

The Japanese White-eye, also known as the mejiro, is a small passerine bird native to Japan, Korea, China, and Taiwan. It is characterized by its olive-green upperparts, yellow throat, and white belly. This species is known for its distinctive vocalizations and is often found in woodlands, parks, and gardens. Japanese White-eyes are highly adaptable and are known to feed on nectar, fruits, and insects. They are social birds and often forage in small groups. Their nesting habits vary, with some building cup-shaped nests in trees while others utilize man-made structures. Despite being common and widespread, habitat loss and invasive species pose potential threats to their populations.
