Javan Hawk-Eagle, Nisaetus bartelsi, is a raptor of montane Java in the Oriental Region and a member of the Accipitridae family. It is an Indonesian endemic and is closely associated with humid tropical forest. The bird is known for its long black crest, held upright and marked with white at the tip. Its head and neck are rufous, the upperparts are dark brown, and the tail is paler with broad cream bands. The underparts are heavily barred, while juveniles are duller and plainer below. The sexes are alike.
