Nisaetus bartelsi
The Javan hawk-eagle (Nisaetus bartelsi) is a medium-sized raptor found in the forests of Java, Indonesia. With a wingspan of around 150 cm, this eagle has a distinctive appearance with dark brown plumage, a prominent crest, and piercing yellow eyes. It is a formidable predator, preying on a variety of small to medium-sized mammals, birds, and reptiles. The Javan hawk-eagle is known for its powerful and agile flight, often soaring high above the forest canopy in search of prey. Unfortunately, due to habitat loss and illegal hunting, the population of this majestic bird is declining, leading to its classification as Endangered by the IUCN.
