Javan Myna

Gracula venerata

The Javan Myna (Gracula venerata) is a medium-sized, glossy black bird with bright yellow-orange patches of bare skin around the eyes and base of the beak. It is known for its raucous calls and adaptability to urban environments. This omnivorous species feeds on a variety of food items, including insects, fruits, and human food scraps. Javan Mynas are highly social birds, often forming large flocks and roosting communally. They are native to Java and Bali, but have been introduced to other parts of Southeast Asia. Their populations are generally stable, but they face threats from habitat loss and capture for the pet trade.
