Anarhynchus javanicus (Chasen, 1938)

Javan Plover, Anarhynchus javanicus, is a plover of coastal southern Sumatra, Java, Bali, the Lesser Sundas and western Sulawesi. It was first described by Chasen in 1938 and belongs to the family Charadriidae in the order Charadriiformes. It is associated with sandy shores and intertidal mudflats, and breeding is thought to take place throughout the year. The species is recognised as distinct, although its taxonomic position is still not fully settled. It is a resident bird of Indonesia and Timor-Leste, and its range also includes Timor-Leste.
