Jerdon's Baza

Aviceda jerdoni (Blyth, 1842)

Jerdon's Baza, Aviceda jerdoni, is a resident bird of the Oriental Region and Australasia, with a wide breeding range. It occurs in South-east Asia, including the terai and foothills of the Eastern Himalayas, as well as parts of southern India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Burma, Thailand, Sumatra, Singapore and the Philippines. It is also recorded from evergreen forest and tea estates, though less often there. The bird has a thin black crest tipped in white, usually carried upright, and can be told from similar raptors by its long crest and broad, rounded wings.
