Johanna's Sunbird

Cinnyris johannae

Johanna's Sunbird (Cinnyris johannae) is a small bird species found in the highlands of central Kenya. It is characterized by its iridescent green and blue plumage, with the male displaying a brilliant metallic sheen. These sunbirds are known for their acrobatic flight patterns and their long, curved bills adapted for feeding on nectar from various flowering plants. They also consume insects and spiders as a source of protein. Johanna's Sunbirds are typically found in montane forests, bamboo thickets, and gardens at altitudes of 1,500 to 2,500 meters. Despite their localized distribution, they are not currently considered to be at risk and are relatively common within their range.
