Nectarinia johnstoni
Johnston's Sunbird (Nectarinia johnstoni) is a small, strikingly colored bird found in the montane forests and woodlands of East Africa. The male is characterized by its iridescent green and blue plumage, with a bright red breast and throat. The female is less colorful, with olive-green upperparts and yellow underparts. These sunbirds feed primarily on nectar from flowers, using their long, curved bills to extract the sweet liquid. They also consume insects and spiders, especially during the breeding season. Johnston's Sunbirds are known for their acrobatic flight and melodious songs, often perching prominently to defend their feeding territories.
