The Juan Fernandez Petrel, or Pterodroma externa, is a medium-sized seabird that belongs to the Procellariidae family. It is predominantly dark brown with a white belly and underwings. This species is known for its long, slender wings and graceful flight patterns. The Juan Fernandez Petrel is a pelagic bird, spending most of its life at sea and only returning to land to breed. It nests in burrows on remote islands, particularly in the Juan Fernandez Archipelago. These birds are skilled foragers, feeding on fish, squid, and crustaceans. The Juan Fernandez Petrel is vulnerable to threats such as habitat destruction, predation by invasive species, and accidental bycatch in fishing gear.
