Glaucidium radiatum (Tickell, 1833)

Jungle Owlet, Glaucidium radiatum, is an owl of India in the Oriental Region, breeding in the subcontinent’s drier forests and also in some Himalayan areas. It is a small bird with a rounded head and fine barring across the body, and it lacks a distinct facial disk. The wings are brownish, the tail has narrow white bars, and the upperparts are dark brown-black with white barring. The nominate form occurs in the plains of India and Sri Lanka, while the Western Ghats race has a shorter tail and more brown on the head.
