Kaempfer's Woodpecker, Celeus obrieni, is a Picidae woodpecker that breeds in eastern Brazil in South America. It is a resident bird of the region and is tied to bamboo in Cerrado and babassu palm forest. The species was first described by Short in 1973. It is known from scattered records across a broad area in north-eastern Brazil, with documented localities in Maranhão, Piauí, Tocantins, Goiás and Mato Grosso. Its English name honours Emil Kaempfer, who collected the type specimen, while the scientific name commemorates Charles O'Brien.
