Kai Monarch

Kai Monarch, Symposiachrus leucurus, is a bird of the Kai Islands in the south-eastern Moluccas, where it breeds in Australasia. It belongs to the monarch family and is confined to this island group. Its habitat is subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest. The bird was first described by Gray in 1858. It was once placed in Monarcha before being transferred to Symposiachrus in 2009. Some authorities have treated the Tanahjampea monarch and the Buru monarch as subspecies of this bird.
