Kakapo

Strigops habroptilus

The Kakapo, also known as the night parrot, is a critically endangered flightless parrot native to New Zealand. It is known for its distinctive owl-like appearance, with a round body, large head, and soft green feathers. The Kakapo is primarily nocturnal and has a unique mating display. It is a herbivorous bird, feeding on native plants, fruits, and seeds. Due to habitat destruction and the introduction of predators, the Kakapo population has drastically declined, and extensive conservation efforts are in place to save this remarkable species from extinction.
